Full Description

Removal of topsoil revealed a central road surface of sandstone chips and larger sandstones forming a kerbing. Beneath small stones hammered into yellow/orange clay. The clay was some 200mm thick and lay on a bed of much larger stones. The full width could not be determined due to the trees either side of the road. Below the stones there was a spread of blue/gray gravels on the hard red boulder clay natural. The width of the road between later ditches is 10m and carriage way is 4m (1).
