Full Description
A struck or hammered silver half-groat of Henry VIII of the Second Coinage of 1526-44.Discovered by metal detector at a deph of c.60mm in January 1983. Obverse: Young portrait of Henry VIII within circle of pellets, the inscription is on the outside is illegible. Reverse: Quartered shield and long-armed cross with 'v'-shaped cross ends. Arms of the cross extend beyond a circle of pellets into the inscription. 'T' and 'W' (for Archbishop Thomas Wolsey) appear on either side of the shield. Reverse inscription: CIVITAS EBORICA. The coin is from the York mint (1).
