Full Description

Cast copper alloy Thealby type bow brooch. Bow is plano-convex in section. Short, deeply moulded cylindrical arms. Bow springs from a square plate with recessed moulding and integral head-loop. Hinge mechanism with fragment of pin remaining. the bow terminated with a flat based foot knob. The catch-plate extends three-quarters the length of the bow.

The type site for this brooch is Thealby in North West Lincolnshire (see 3). There are also examples from Richborough, Kent (see 4); and South Shields Roman Fort (see 5).
