Full Description
Bronze Age palstave found 16 September 1990 with a metal detector, at a depth of 3 inches in stubble on land at Iddinshall Grange, after a ploughing match (1). Palstave is c.13cms long and c.5cms wide across splayed blade, which is badly corroded. Drawing and photograph (2). Has affinities generally among the North British wing flanged axes, though these have either no stop or a gently sloping stop. The form is not found in Wales or the Marches (where winged flanged axes are practically non-existent), though the stop may find parallels there rather than in the North (3).
