Bronze knobbed terret ring with three clusters of knobs evenly spaced on the upper section of the ring. For a discussion of the type see (2) where over fifty examples are noted. MacGregor suggests that the peak production was in the first half of the second century AD. The earliest example being a stratified piece from Caerleon said to date to c.AD 75-100. A damaged terret belonging to the knobbed series was excavated by Professor Robert Newstead and published in (3). Other terrets have also been found during recent excavations in Chester. The Stamford Bridge terret was found in the river bank at the time of straightening the River Gowy and building of the new bridge and was reported to the museum in April 1984. Now in the Grosvenor Museum, Chester.
