Full Description
Site of battle at Oldcastle Heath. In 1644 Oldcastle Heath was the scene of a conflict between a party of 2500 royalist cavalry who had been driven out of Lancashire and about 900 Parliamentary troops from Nantwich. The Royalists were defeated and fled leaving Colonels Vane and Conyers dead on the field with 60 men and 25 prisoners. The Parliamentarians suffered only one casualty (1).
