Summary

A heavily worn bronze As of Trajan was found in a field here. The inscription is illegible on the obverse. Minted in Rome AD 103-111. An As is a low value bronze coin. At the time of Trajan there were 16 asses to 1 silver denarius.

Full Description

Bronze As of Trajan, heavily worn. Found in field at grid ref. Inscription illegible on the obverse. Reverse: S)PQR OPTI(MO PRINCIPI SC). Salus seated left on the throne, patera in extended right hand, feeding snake coiled round the alter. Diameter 2.89-3.12 cm, weight 11.16 gm. See RIC vol 2 no 515 (b) p 281, Rome AD 103-111. Reported 9.5.1989, to Grosvenor Museum (1).
