Summary

A single span sandstone bridge crossing a drain or channel to the north of Meadows Farm. The drain/channel is part of a substantial network of drains in this area which may be part of a post medieval field drainage system or an inundation system for water meadows (see CHER4663/1). The bridge is probably of a similar date.

Full Description

A bridge is depicted crossing a drain near Meadows Farm on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 25" to 1 mile map (1).

The drain/channel is depicted on the tithe map for Horton township 1838 (2).

The drain/channel is part of a substantial network of drains in this area which may be part of a field drainage system or an inundation system for water meadows (see CHER 4663/1) (3).

The bridge is probably contemporaneous with the drain/channel (4).

The bridge comprises a single span arch and is constructed on sandstone (5).
