Full Description

The earliest reference to Henshaw (henneschæ) dates from the thirteenth century (1). Henshall is mentioned in the Domesday book as Hofincel, along with Henbury. Henshaw was a hamlet and also a manor under Siddington. It gave its name to a family whose arms were Argent a chevron, Sable between three moor-hens, of the Second, membered Gules (2). Historic maps show a succession of probable farm buildings, in addittion to Henshaw Hall (CHER 1368/1/1), on the site (3, 4 & 5). Only the buildings located immediately to the north and west of the hall survive. Henshaw House is probably a barn conversion (6).
