Summary

Archaeological investigation of a medieval road revealed a 5m wide surface set into a natural clay trench. The original metalled surface consisted of hand-sized worn river pebbles over a 15-20cm layer of gravel.

Full Description

Section of medieval road revealed a 5m wide surface set into a natural clay trench. The original metalled surface consisted of hand-sized worn river pebbles over a 15-20cm layer of gravel agglomerate. A later re- surfacing at a depth of 20cm had been robbed or ploughed away (1).
