Full Description

Formerly farmhouse and cottage, now farmhouse: partly late seventeenth century and partly early-mid eighteenth century with some later alterations. Washed brick. Welsh slate roof and two brick chimneys. Long range of house and cottage in line. Two and three-storey, seven-bay front. Right three bays of three storeys are symmetrical. Clasping plain end pilasters. End bays have cambered heads to three-light wooden casements, some with glazing bars. Central bay flanked by plain strip pilasters. Six-panelled door has a single triangular pediment above on a modillion cornice. Two-light casement above. Remainder of two storeys has dentil cornice, similar three-light casements, two with glazing bars either side of a door with simple fanlight. Left end bay has a small-pane fire window. Three-storey gabled porch to rear. Interior: not inspected.

L-shaped farm building: early-mid eighteenth century with some later work. Partly stone ground storey, partly washed orange brick. Welsh slate roof. North front of south range of two storeys and fourteen bays. Dentil cornice. Board floors under flat stone and segmental brick heads and two small pane iron casements below. Above are small windows, square pitch holes and X-shaped ventilation patterns.
West front of east range also has stone ground storey. two-storey, eight bay front. Brick dentil cornice. Four board doors under flat stone lintels and 4 windows with small pane glazing partly surviving. Above are two square pitch holes and a line of X-shaped ventilation patterns.
Several large twentieth century openings have been introduced in the rear of these ranges.
The three-bay nineteenth and twentieth century brick building added to the north end of the east range is not included in the item.

Farm building including office and stable/shippon: early to mid-nineteenth century with late nineteenth century outshut. Ashlar sandstone ground storey, washed brick upper storey. Welsh slate roof. two-storey, five-bay south front. Brick dentil cornice. Windows a mixture of casements, some with glazing bars surviving. Three doorways under stone lintels. Central upper window in gabled half dormer. Brick outshut to rear and raised water tank with brick castellations. Interior: late nineteenth century stable stalls of wood and iron survive.

This map depicts three buildings at this location. The house, depicted as T shaped, lies adjacent to the road. To it’s immediate south-east are two further buildings arranged at ninety degrees to each other. These may be the buildings shown on later maps or their precursors. Described as a homestead and garden.

This map depicts the house with the adjoining farm building forming two sides of a square. Two unconnected ranges of farm buildings form the other two sides (south-east and south-west) of the square. A further farm buildings are located to the south-east and north-east, the latter being smaller and including probable pig sties.

The gap between the buildings on the south-eastern and south-western sides of the yard has been infilled forming a large L-shaped range.

The listed buildings were all converted to houses in the mid to late 1980s. Almost all the other farm buildings, which included an extensive array of large twentieth century buildings, were demolished at this time. This had the effect of shrinking the footprint back to the farmstead's historic core.
