Summary

A worked flint and a small sherd of pottery were found during excavations in 1989 on the line of Roman road from Chester to Manchester at Tarvin Sands. The flint was recovered from the spoil heap and is a broad blade of light gray flint, both margins of which have secondary retouch. It is probably Bronze Age. The sherd of pottery was found in subsoil and is probably prehistoric in date.

Full Description

A worked flint & a small sherd of pottery found during excavations Jan - Feb 1989 on line of Roman road from Chester to Manchester at Tarvin Sands (See RN:844/1/25). The flint was recovered from the spoil heap and is a broad blade of light gray flint, both margins of which have secondary retouch. It is probably Bronze Age. The sherd of pottery was found in the subsoil of Trench A. It is small, 20 x 15mm, black with white grit inclusions and is probably prehistoric in date (1).
