Summary

Church of St Peter, Long Lane, Hargrave. Was chapel & school Dated 1627, bell turret & vestry added & restored 1877. Five-bay nave & chancel in 1 range, S porch & vestry. Erected & endowed by Thomas Moulson, Lord Mayor of London 1627. Set up as combined chapel & school. 1812 school & chapel taken down & whole of chapel used for worship.

Full Description

Church of St Peter, Long Lane, Hargrave. Was chapel & school, now ch. 1627,bell turret & vestry added & restored 1877.Ashlar red sandstone, red tile roof.5-bay nave & chancel in 1 range, S porch & vestry. Diagonal buttresses at corners & bays of nave divided by stepped buttresses. Stone copings & finials. Stone mullioned windows. Porch projects under coped & finialled gable. Massive chamfered lintel over restored studded oak board door with planted strap hinges. Above in cyma-moulded surround arms & plaque record building of chapel 1627 by Thomas Moulson, born at Hargrave & became Lord Mayor of London. Right end is priest's door in chamfered surround. Blocked mullioned & transomed window. Internal: Simple but with hammerbeam roof sprung from stone corbels, with carved console & pendant. Wind braced purlins. Arch description(1).Erected & endowed by Thomas Moulson, Lord Mayor of London 1627.Set up as combined chapel & school.1812 school & chapel taken down & whole of chapel used for worship (2) & (3).
