Summary

The course of a Roman road can be traced in this parish. The line of Road Street is 17th century in date but several hundred yards to the north is an earlier route. Investigation on the line of the earlier route revealed some surface cobbling at the soil surface. The route is presumed to bear directly for Eaton, passing behind modern Tarporley.

Full Description

Course of Roman road. The line of Road Street is 17th century in date. Several hundred yards to the north is an earlier route. Investigation on this line revealed some surface cobbling at the soil surface, between SJ 53516360 and SJ 54096360 & the route led past the southern edge of Ash Wood & is presumed to bear directly for Eaton, passing behind modern Tarporley (1)& (2).
