Full Description
Taylor's Almshouses. A 'hospital' or almshouses for the poor and needy was built in 1536 by Sir Ranulph Brereton. It comprised six small cottages with gardens for the old and infirm and was located on the south side of Church Street. These were rebuilt by the Cholmondeley family in 1721 and have subsequently been restored several times in the past 60 years until little of the early work remains (1).
