Full Description

Cattle pound, early nineteenth century, restored 1981. Of red sandstone blocks 4.2m square and 1.2m high in coursed rubble. The compound has a metal gated opening on the west side. The wall is topped by a roughly rounded stone coping.

The Pinfold, which is an eighteenth century feature, has stood in Chester Road at Wardle for more than 250 years and was used by the farming community to gather stray cattle. Anybody who had lost an animal would come along to the Pinfold and collect it. The refurbishment is now complete with a plaque to identify it.
