Full Description

Gatesheath Hall, Gatesheath Lane. Farmhouse, late C17 origins, main fabric mid C18 with early C19 glazing and porch. Flemish bond brick with buff stone dressings. Welsh slate roof with five brick chimneys. Double- pile plan. Main house has three-storey symmetrical three-bay south front. Rusticated quoins and moulded stone cornice. Central bay has simple detached stone porch with wooden doorcase with fluted pilasters and panelled reveals. Bay to left is C17 with English bond brickwork and band at first floor. Interior: Contains two-room C17 layout with heavy chamfered ceiling beams and central fireplace with wooden lintels. Softwood classical semi-circular headed entrance to stairway with turned mahogany balusters. Six-panelled doors and an inscription EL 1711 (not original) over a fireplace. A former square dovecote with pyramidal roof has been incorporated into the rear of the house as a bathroom. Full architectural description (1).
