Summary

Amorphus and slight earthworks north of Platt's Lane are the remains of the 'Old House' shown on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition. Slight scarps in the area to the west represent the site of the house and the boundaries of the field towards its SW corner lie upon one course of sandstone blocks, either original walling or re-used material from the demolished building. The complex overlies the ends of east-west orientated ridge and furrow which survies in the field to the east . The buildings are not shown on later maps, indicating their demolition.

Full Description

Amorphus and slight earthworks north of Platt's Lane. Slight scarps in the area to the west represent the site of the house and the boundaries of the field towards its southwest corner lie upon one course of sandstone blocks, either original walling or re-used material from the demolished building. The complex overlies the ends of east-west orientated ridge and furrow which survies in the field to the east. Known in the 1840's as the 'Old House', it was held by the same tenant who occupied what is now Chapelhouse Farm (1). The house and gardens/orchard etce shown on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 25” maps. The buildings are not shown on later maps, indicating their demolition (2 & 3).
