Full Description

Moated site visible as a square ditched enclosure 200m north of Fields Farm approximately 38m X 40m in size. Ditches on the northern and western side of the earthwork are clearly visible on the 1940s aerial photograph (1). The enclosure is also visible as a cropmark on the 1973 (2), 1985 (3), 1993 (4) and the 2000 (5) aerial photographs, this might indicate that the ditches for the earthwork were filled in between the late 1940s and 1973. The 1844 tithe map of Hatherton identifies the field as 'Moat bank and part of Smithy Field' (6)
