Summary

Churchyard to the parish church of All Saints. George Ormerod notes that a documentary source dating from 1572 refers to grave stones in the churchyard marked with crosses the heads of which are florees and which had swords at the sides of them, indicating the sepulchres of crusaders. The churchyard has been extended once to the west in the nineteenth century and twice in the twentieth century, once to the west and once to the north.

George Ormerod notes that a documentary source (Harl MSS. 2151 p.108) dating from 1572 refers to grave stones in the churchyard marked with crosses the heads of which are florees and which had swords at the sides of them, indicating the sepulchres of crusaders.

The churchyard has been extended once to the west in the nineteenth century and twice in the twentieth century, once to the west and once to the north (see 2, 3, 4 & 5).

The churchyard contains a war memorial in the form of a freestanding Celtic cross and commemorates the names of sixteen men who died 1914-18 and four who died 1939-45. The memorial was dedicated on the 30th of October 1920 and was funded by public subscription.
