Summary

An archaeological evaluation using two trenches. In both trenches a variety of pottery sherds were discovered from different periods. Inhumations were also discovered which will remain insitu. Also discovered were iron fittings probably from coffins and five clay pipe stems.

Full Description

An archaeological evaluation using two trenches. Trench 1 - Romano-British ceramic vessel sherds, industrial waste fragments, black-glazed earthenware, 3 sherds of brown-glazed earthenware, 2 fragments of willow-pattern, 1 rim sherd fro a Midlands Yellow ware pharmaceutical vessel, 2 small fragments of Mottled ware, a single sherd of white stoneware and four clay tobacco pipe stems.
Trench 2 - 2 inhumations which will remain insitu, single fragment of body sherd constructed from an orange sandy fabric with an orange/brown exterior, black and brown glazed earthenware, white glazed stoneware, iron objects - either nails or associated funerary fittings for coffins, single copper alloy shroud-pin, single sherd of 14th/16th century ceramic and a single clay pipe stem (1).
