Full Description
Survey and excavation at Frandley Farm by the Priestley Field Archaeology Group from 2000 - 2003 to locate the site of the original Frandley Farm, which predates the existing farm house. William Gandy was the owner of the original farmhouse in the 17th century and converted to the Quaker movement . He gave a plot of land and building to the Quakers and the land is still used by the Quakers. The current farmhouse was built c 1790 and there is also an earlier barn on the site, but there is no surface indication of the site of the original farmhouse. Map evidence suggests this may have been located in an area which later became an orchard. Excavation revealed a brick built rectangular structure, a well, cobbled areas and possible post holes, all probably relating to buildings shown on the Tithe Map if 1844. Finds included post medieval pottery, clay pipes, and a 19th century coin (1).
