Full Description
Non Conformist Chapel built in 1783 for (Wesleyan?) Methodist preaching and subsequently occupied by the Methodist New Connexion (founded 1791 (2)). It was reopened by Independents in 1803 and formerly transferred to Congregational Trustees in 1806. It is a small building of brick, with a slate roof that rises above the line of the adjacent 18th Century cottages to the right (South East) and of the Sunday School of 1902 to the left (North West) which replaces a pair of similar cottages. The South West front has been refenestered in the late 19th century, has an original North West gallery with fielded-panelled front and later fretwork embellishment.
In the school room is a brass, six branch chandelier with gadrooned body inscribed 'THE GIFT OF MR HENRY RIDGEWAY OF MOBBERLEY. 1783' (1)
