The first Methodist chapel built in Bollington was opened in 1808 on land provided by Peter Lomas, owner of the nearby Waterhouse Mill. The chapel was also used as a Sunday School for the children until a dedicated building was built. A second, larger chapel was built on the same site in 1837. The building was very plain both inside and out, but by 1880 it required significant repair and in 1884 it was decided to replace it with the present chapel building. Significant changes were made to the chapel building in the 1980. A floor was inserted at the level of the balcony, with the upper floor becoming the chapel and the ground floor offices and function rooms. The organ may have been removed at this time. In 2008 the tower spire was rebuilt. Services ceased in 2012 and the building was sold.
