Full Description
Started in 1864 by Frederick Monks, a former apprentice at Rylands Wire Works. In the later C19th it employed 800 to 1000 workers and included a foundry, rolling shops for making iron rods, annealing, tempering and galvanizing and drawing shops. It made wire rope and netting as well as wire. It used the Wortle plate method of drawing (1).
