Full Description
Ammunition store at Culceth Carrs found on the modern Ordnance survey maps and 1940s RAF aerial photos. The buildings are spread over a relatively small area and many of the field boundaries have been removed. This suggests that it was built early in the war before it was realized that the patterns of munitions stores needed to be broken up so that enemy bombers would find them difficult to find. Each magazine has an earth embankment around it, and some new magazines have been built during the 20th century suggesting that they are still in use somehow. Unlike the Magazines at Dunham on the Hill and Chelford there are no narrow gauge rails visible linking the magazines to the main line railway, suggesting that the ordnance was carried to the railway by other means.
