This map depicts a gasworks with two gasometers and two other buildings.

This map depicts additional buildings and structures. The site has expanded to the west.

In 1864 a gas company was formed in Wilmslow, which also supplied Alderley Edge. There was a Special Act of Parliament in 1872, forming the Wilmslow and Alderley Edge Gas Co. Ltd. In 1949 the Wilmslow and Alderley Edge Gas Co. Ltd. was vested in the North Western Gas Board at which time gas was made using Horizontal Retort. Gas production ceased in 1951.
