Full Description
Chorlton Mill. Possibly the same as the watermill mentioned at Cuddington in 1497 (1). The present building was converted in 1930 to a cottage residence of 2 storeys. There were 2 ponds, the upper one still exists, but the lower one at the rear of the mill is now grassed over. The overshot wheel of c.10-12ft diameter appears to have been fed by a trough from the pool, which is not usual in Cheshire. There is evidence of the position of the shaft on the gable end and the brickwork is line-marked around the wheel position (2).
