Summary

The site of the Clayturn Brick Works which operated from the late nineteenth century until the mid twentieth century. The site survives as an earthwork and below ground remains, associated with the buildings, may survive in this area.

This map depicts a brick field adjacent to the canal.

This map depicts a brick works with two buildings adjacent to the canal. The workings, where the clay for the bricks was extracted, is depicted as an earthwork and has expanded to the north when compared to the earlier Ordnance Survey map (see 2).

This map depicts a brick works with two buildings adjacent to the canal. The buildings appear to be served by short tramways. A chimney is also depicted. The workings, where the clay for the bricks was extracted, is depicted as an earthwork and has expanded to the north-west when compared to the earlier Ordnance Survey map (see 3).

The brick works is visible on this aerial photograph. Only the more southerly of the two buildings seen on earlier maps (see 3 & 4). The tranways and chimney are still extant. The area of the clay quarry has expanded to the west where further small buildings or structures may be located.

The brick works appears disused and the buildings are no longer extant.
