Full Description

This map depicts a gasworks, comprising one building and on gasometer (labelled), at this location.

nly the southern part of the building is extant. A new gasometer has been constructed and a new building is depicted to the east of the gasometers. A further new building is located adjacent to the road.

The Audlem gasworks were opened in 1872, by they were built by Willey & Ford of Exeter, who also laid services and fixed gas-fittings. The company operated as the Audlem Gas & Coke Co. Ltd. The gasworks were to be closed in 1927, but they survived and in 1949 Nationalised as part of West Midlands Gas Board.

The site had been predominantly cleared of buildings and structures by the early 1970s and was redeveloped for housing in the 1990s.
