Full Description
Fieldwalking in 1990 by the Field Archaeology Section, Liverpool Museum revealed 4 small concentrations of flint, including a rod microlith, a backed blade and a small number of blades, some of which may have been trimmed. Found in field next to the river. Probably Mesolithic in date. Raw material is a light gray flint, probably from the local drift. Also general spread across the field of flintwork of different technology - including 4 scrapers and a number of broad flakes. Distinguished from the mesolithic by squat flakes, large striking platforms and pronounced bulbs of percussion. Some pieces in same material as mesolithic flintwork, although included pieces in a light brown, unpatinated boulder clay flint (1).
