Summary

A disused copper mine depicted on late nineteenth century maps. These maps depict a series of buildings and two circular buildings or structures. A shaft is labelled and depicted as are spoil heaps in to the south-west. LIDAR survey suggests that earthworks associated with the mine survive in this area and below ground archaeological remains are to be expected.

Full Description

<1> Ordnance Survey, 1871-1882, Ordnance Survey County Series (Epoch 1) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ8778, 1872-1875 (Maps and Plans). SCH2462.

This map depicts a series of buildings, including a line of eight adjoining square buildings or structures, and two circular buildings or structures. A shaft is labelled and depicted as are spoil heaps in to the south-west. It is labelled Copper Mine (disused). A possible shaft mound is depicted circa sixty-five metres to the north-west.

This map depicts to adjoining buildings with an attached circular structure or building. It corresponds to the location of a building depicted on the 1872-1875 map, but has a larger footprint. The other buildings are no longer extant and an access track is depicted running across their location, directly to the potential new structures. The area is labelled Copper Mine (disused).

Only one building is depicted it appears to correspond to the building depicted on the 1872-1875 map. The area is labelled Copper Mine (disused).
