The Severn Vyrnwy Aqueduct was built between 1881 and 1882 to transport water from Lake Vyrnwy to Liverpool. It is 110 kilometers long and was initially constructed of cast iron pipes, except for the section under the River Mersey where the pipeline was made of steel. Further pipelines were added in the early twentieth century.
