Summary

The Old Post Office is a Grade II listed building. It was built as a cottage in the 17th century and then much altered in the 19th century with internal modification in the 20th century. It is a timber framed building but the oak small-panel frame has been partly replaced in painted brick. Part of the building stands on a sandstone plinth and the roof is thatched with an eyebrow dormer.

Full Description

The Old Post Office, Stannage Lane. Cottage, probably mid C17, much altered C19 and (internally) C20. Oak small-panel frame, partly replaced in painted brick and partly on a sandstone plinth. Thatched roof. One storey plus attic bedrooms; of three cells. Small C19 iron casements to upper and lower storey. Rear wall and right gable wall are in brick. At rear is a small C20 brick extension. The thatch now has an eyebrow dormer. Two ridge chimneys and chimney on right gable. Interior: Parlor has a large chamfered oak beam and, against gable wall, an altered inglenook, with stair in corner. Full architectural description (1).
