Full Description
<1> Council for British Archaeology, 2001, 20th Century Defences in Britain : An Introductory Guide (Book). SCH4453.
It is unusual as it does not conform to tank traps in this source.
<2> County Historic Environment Record, Site Visit/Watching Brief Observation Report Form, Winfield H, 10/05/04 (Unpublished Document). SCH4357.
Located on site visit. It is made of several slabs of concrete joined together by long steel rods/bolts. It is long enough to imagine it being used to go across the canal or the road however it is unclear as to how it would be moved into place. It may have a connection with the nearby oil storage depot (CSMR: 4233) which may explain why it is unusual, as they may have wanted to be able to block off the canal going up to the pipeline.
<3> Various, Various, Oral communication to the HER, Edwards R 20/12/2011 (Oral Communication). SCH2330.
The remains of a possible Second World War tank trap by the side of the canal. It probably formed part of a road block designed to stop vehicles crossing the canal bridge and formed part of a defensive position.
