Description
An Archaeology Desk-Based Assessment was produced in 2025 in support of proposed works at Weaver Vale Garden Centre, Winnington Avenue, Northwich, Winnington, CW8 4EE, prior to re-development. The proposed development site formed part of the Winnington Hall Estate until 1844, after which point it remained as probable agricultural or grazing land. Historic maps from the late 20th century indicate that a train track associated with the Brunner Mond Soda Ash plant existed along and inside the north-eastern boundary of the site. Most of the site was used as a sports ground until the construction of the existing garden centre in 1982. LiDAR imagery from 2022, indicates that a large north to south aligned ditch is present in the south-western corner of the site but is likely associated with a modern fence line/hedge line. (1)
