Description
Desk-based assessment produced in September 2022 for Fiddler's Ferry power station, Widnes Road, Warrington. The power station includes 8 cooling towers either side of the main boilers and turbine halls with a central chimney and national grid sub-station; support and administrative buildngs are located predominantly on the eastern side of the power station. Further infrastructure is situated within the western and southern parts of the site including a coal storage area with associated railway which feeds into the former St Helem's and Runcorn Gap Railway (part of the London and North Western Railway). Also south of the railway and St Helen's canal are four lagoons and an ash storage area. Areas of the Mersey foreshore surrounding the lagoon structures are noted for their unimproved land character (coastal), whilst agricultural fields on the east of the site are characterised by late post medieval agricultural improvement.
