Description
An Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment was produced in 2024 for land north-west of Carden Park Hotel in support of a proposal for the siting of 67 Lodges within the grounds of the hotel together with associated landscaping and environmental improvements at the site.
There are no designated heritage assets within the site. However, there are 14 Listed Buildings, two Conservation Areas and one Scheduled Monument within an Assessment Area of 1,000m radius, centred on the site. An expanse of ridge and furrow earthworks and one township boundary (that between Barton and Stretton) fall within the site. The site occupies two parcels of historic landscape character. The majority of the site is identified as Late Post-Medieval Agricultural Improvement and a small portion of the site, along its eastern boundary is identified as Post-Medieval Ornamental Parkland.
The walk-over survey noted a number of features of the historic environment within the site – including hedgerows, extant and infilled ponds (probably relict marl pits), the site of a relict field boundary dating to c. 1875 and ridge and furrow earthworks. (1)
