Description
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in 2023 at Crown Farm Quarry, Oakmere, Cheshire, CWB 2JL (SJ 56733 69580), as part of a programme of archaeological mitigation at the quarry site. The purpose of the watching brief was to monitor all topsoil and subsoil removal during groundworks of the proposed 0.76ha extension to the quarrying area. The monitoring work was undertaken over 7 days between the 15th of September and the 22nd November 2023. The investigation revealed evidence of modern ploughing in the western area of the site and extensive bioturbation was observed truncating the natural substrate. No finds were recovered, and no environmental samples were taken. (1)
