Description
Study looking at the history, use and abandonment of RAF Poulton, its associated landscape and more generally WW2 activity within and around the area. Desk-based research was supplemented by site visits to idenfify any surviving remains. The primary documents used for this purpose were the decommissioned MOD maps of the site. The field survey was conducted during the winter months of December 2021/January 2022, when vegetation was at its lowest and crops had been removed. A further visit was made to retake several photographs in March of 2023, providing the opportunity to record a structure within Site 4 which had been revealed by the management of a hedge. The study was also informed by first hand accounts of local people living in Poulton, as well as military staff who served at the base in the 1940s. (1)
