Description
Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken in 2022 during groundworks associated with the erection of new domestic dwellings on land at Bachelor’s Lane, Great Boughton, Chester (centring on NGR SJ 42280 65688).
The site was identified as lying within the wider area of Chester’s archaeological potential. In particular, the site was identified as lying on the fringes of the extensive Roman cemetery that lay to the east of Chester, a number of Roman cremations having been recovered previously from the vicinity of the proposed development site.
No archaeological features of significance were encountered during the monitoring, though finds of ceramics of Roman, medieval and post-medieval date were recovered from the deep topsoils. (1)
