Description
Heritage statement produced in 2013 for Hare Hill which stands on the north eastern slopes of Alderley Edge in a rural area with extensive views over the surrounding countryside to the north and west. The house, which is Grade II Listed, was built c.1800 in a Georgian style for William Hibbert of nearby Birtles Hall. In 1879 it was acquired by the Brocklehurst family, who were Macclesfield silk manufacturers. On the death of Colonel Charles Brocklehurst in 1981, the estate was left to the National Trust. The Trust decided to open the walled garden and wooded grounds to the public, and sold the house which is now owned privately. (1)
