Description
A desk based assessment was produced in 2017 for a site located on the south side of the village of Langley, to the south-east of the town of Macclesfield. It was once occupied by Langley Print Works (silk) before the development of housing and engineering works. It is currently known as Langley Business Park. At the north end, the study site also incorporates an area of rough grassland, scrub and hardstanding, with some mature trees and woodland. A site inspection was undertaken on 15th June 2017.
There are no designated assets on the study site. Additionally, it is considered that there is a low/negligible potential for sub-surface remains of Prehistoric, Roman and Medieval date. There is a high potential, however, for below-ground remains associated with the 19th century Langley Print Works to survive in pockets across the site. The site visit identified that elements of the early phase of buildings on the site also survive, including a workshop-type building, a building known as the Wheelhouse and the remains of an early structure incorporated into a modern building. A culverted watercourse was also observed. (1)
