Description

Summary The present Hall was built in 1775 for Edward Tomkinson of Manchester. The design is said to be by Samuel Wyatt. By 1798 it was owned by the France family, with additions undertaken in 1875 for Lt Col Charles Hosken France-Hayhurst whose family lived there until 1945. The Hall was owned by Manchester Corporation and used as a residential school between 1950 and 1981. The estate was bought in 1996 by P J Livesey and the site redeveloped during 1998/99. The derelict mansion was refurbished into 6 apartments. Additional homes were created from the estate buildings and new accommodation was built within the walled garden and the courtyard. A total of 67 individual properties are now owned and managed by the residents. The Hall complex is surrounded by 14 acres of gardens and parkland with an ornamental lake.
