Description

An archaeological strip, map and record excavation was undertaken in 2020 on land to the rear of No.21 Main Road, Shavington, Cheshire (centring on NGR SJ 694 514). The site was identified as potentially containing the buried remains of a post-medieval structure indicated on historic mapping. The excavation was carried out ahead of the construction of domestic dwellings in accordance with a condition of planning permission. The results of the excavation demonstrated that a number of features encountered, in the form of several postholes, may represent the remains of a timber structure likely to be that of a building recorded on historic mapping during the mid-19th century.
