Description
A heritage assessment was produced in 2019 for Number 1 Watergate/2-8 Bridge Street Row, Chester, a grade II* listed building situated in the main retail area of Chester city centre. The building, by Lockwood, is in vernacular style and built in 1892. The building, which has been empty for some while, was originally a row of 6 townhouses, but converted to commercial premises. The list description acknowledges that whilst the interior still contains some “good fireplaces”, it is also “much altered”, and also considers that it is “the most satisfying of Lockwood’s many buildings in Chester”. The proposal is to use the premises at 1 Watergate/2-8 Bridge Street for hotel. (1)
