Site Event/Activity record ECH6811 - Archaeological Evaluation Report: Booths Park, Knutsford

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in 2019 in the north-eastern carpark of Booths Park in Knutsford, Cheshire, prior to the development of the site. This included the excavation of eight trenches to identify and characterise any potential below ground remains. The site lies immediately to the east of the Medieval Norbury Booths Hall moated site which is a designated Scheduled Monument [HER DCH161]. The moated site consists of a D-shape enclosure with a waterlogged moat connected to an extensive system of fishponds. To the west of the site is the 18th century new Booths Hall and surrounding 21st century business park. The Archaeological Evaluation identified archaeological features of Post Medieval date, thought to be field boundaries, drainage channels and a small brick structure, likely associated with either Booths Hall farm or the late 19th century kitchen gardens of New Booths Hall. The development of some of these features can be traced through the historic maps from 1847 onwards. (1)
