Description

A Design, Access and Heritage Report was produced in 2019 in support of a programme of proposed renovation works for 45 High Street, Nantwich, currently an estate agents. The property, which dates to the seventeenth century, is Grade II listed and lies within the Nantwich Conservation Area. Number 45 is a single gable, four storey property (including attic and a basement) under a pitched tile-covered roof. The structure is timber-framed (oak) with lath and plaster infill. There are areas of exposed brick infill, and later extensions to the rear; one of considerable age and a later flat roofed addition. The floors are timber with a solid slab at ground floor. Window frames are timber; those to the front are older than those to the rear. The ground floor shop front dates from later periods, with a curved glazed section to the left hand side of the recessed door and a traditional large glass shop window to the right hand side. Above ground floor level the first floor and attic elevations are timber framed with white plaster (anticipated to be wattle and daub) in!ll and decorative timber sections. The building retains much of its original timber frame and plaster detail in places, but has been subject to extensions and alterations. A lack of ongoing maintenance and poor repairs have resulted in some deterioration, particularly of timber work. (1)
