Site Event/Activity record ECH6783 - Heritage Impact Assessment: Proposed New Dwelling adjacent to 183 Crompton Road, Macclesfield

Heritage assessment produced in 2019 in support of a planning application for the construction of a new dwelling adjacent to 183 Crompton Road, Macclesfield, which is a Grade II listed building. The scheme seeks to construct one dwelling on the vacant space to the side of the existing property of a single storey appearance, designed in a style to complement the heritage asset. Number 183 Crompton Road forms the end house in a row of four terraces built with weavers' garrets in 1877 (183-189 Crompton Road). They are of red brick construction, three-storeys high, with a slate roof. The construction date is evidenced by the date plaque which sits on the principal elevation. The dwelling has a round arched doorway and sash windows, one per floor to the principal elevation. Openings at ground and first floor area similar in size and scale however the opening to the third floor is a garret storey and is of a scale and size in keeping with the likely former use of the property. The dwelling details eaves which overhang and are carried on paired console brackets. The elevational treatment of this property is replicated and mirrored across the four terraced houses which make up the heritage asset. The buildings are generally attractive examples of buildings of their era and appear to have been relatively well maintained over time, although number 183 has maintenance issues. (1)
