Description

A heritage statement was produced in 2019 in support of an application to make some internal changes to Hare Hill Hall, Over Alderley, and also to create stables with associated menage, and construct a gazebo. The hall is a Grade II Listed building, originally built in circa 1750, but with extensive early nineteenth century alterations. In 1879 it was acquired by the Brocklehurst family, who were Macclesfield silk manufacturers. On the death of Colonel Charles Brocklehurst in 1981, the estate was left to the National Trust. The Trust decided to open the walled garden and wooded grounds to the public, and sold the house in order to help finance the running of the gardens. (1)
